The concept of Integrated Fire Compliance Management emerged as our customers conveyed to us the importance of having one vendor for all fire related services. They explained to us the enormous costs of having multiple contacts, generating multiple purchase orders, approving multiple invoices and writing multiple checks. We also learned of the risks involved when our customers assume the comprehensive task of managing multiple vendors and multiple code requirements.

When these services are fragmented, it becomes much more difficult to assure that all fire equipment is maintained properly and in the required time frame. When there is a fire, heat and smoke can do serious damage quickly. Deadly combustion products can reach dangerous levels almost immediately. When you choose Fire Systems Inc., all fire related services can be integrated in a single package. Our computer keeps track of which inspections are due and which month they are due.

ENGINEERED SPECIAL HAZARD SYSTEMS
Engineered systems are designed and installed to protect specific high asset value areas which may otherwise be damaged by water from sprinkler systems. Clean agents such as FM-200 and Inergen are selected by designers when protecting special hazards such as computers, data storage equipment, telecommunications equipment, clean environments and other mission critical equipment. The intangible assets protected may include special software, down-time, electronic transfer of assets and business interruption. In many cases, a Halon 1301 system can be converted to FM-200 with simple alterations.

Carbon dioxide and dry chemicals are most often selected for a vast array of industrial hazards and commercial cooking applications for unoccupied spaces only.

FIRE ALARMS
Most commercial and industrial occupancies have some type of fire alarm system. They are intended to detect smoke and immediately alarm the occupants to evacuate the building. They are often monitored by commercial monitoring companies to promptly notify the fire department. Often the sprinkler system, special hazard suppression system and other systems are tied into the fire alarm panel. Fire Systems, Incorporated can design and install automatic fire alarm systems which meet or exceed the requirements of the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) Pamphlet 72. We will also perform regularly scheduled maintenance on most types of fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA 72.

SPRINKLER SYSTEMS
Fire Sprinkler Systems have proven to be the most effective form of fire protection for decades, but they must be inspected on regular intervals to assure operability. There are two types of systems. The wet-pipe system employs automatic sprinklers attached to a piping system containing water and connected to a water supply so that water discharges immediately from sprinklers opened by a fire. Only those sprinklers which have been operated by heat over the fire will discharge water. The dry-pipe system employs automatic sprinklers attached to a piping system containing air or nitrogen under pressure. When released, the water flows into the piping system and discharges only from those sprinklers which have been operated by the fire. Dry-pipe systems are installed in lieu of wet-pipe systems where piping is subject to freezing.

KITCHEN SYSTEMS
The recent demand for a low-fat diet has profoundly changed the effectiveness of conventional extinguishing agents. Additives which make low-fat oils palatable, coupled with super-insulated deep fat fryers have rendered most dry chemical agents ineffective for fighting these types of fires. The concern has been so significant that a UL 300 test requirement was enacted calling for new agents and new designs for all systems installed or modified as of November 21, 1994. Fire Systems, Incorporated can survey your system and determine if it meets these new requirements. We can also inspect and maintain your system(s) in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association’s pamphlets 17, 17A and 96.

EMERGENCY AND EXIT LIGHTS
In fire situations, electricity outages are common. When properly maintained, battery-operated emergency lights and exit lights will operate when they sense a loss of power. For this reason, the National Fire Protection Association’s Life Safety Code (NFPA 101) requires the installation and maintenance of emergency lighting under section 5-8 "illumination of Means of Egress" and the installation of exit signs under section 5-10 "Marking of Means of Egress". OSHA also requires emergency lighting under Section 1910.36 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

The Life Safety Code also requires a test on all emergency lighting monthly. Annual inspection and testing is also required by NFPA 70 and the National Electric Code. Both Codes require written test records be kept for inspection by the Authority Having Jurisdiction.

VEHICLE SYSTEMS AND GAS DETECTION
Industrial vehicles are plagued with potential fire hazards and burn at an alarming rate. These fires pose a serious threat to operator safety and disrupt business operations. Vehicle fire suppression systems can detect and suppress fires before they have a chance to do severe damage to your equipment. They protect the operator from severe or fatal injuries, prevent downtime and save equipment. Considering the invaluable protection it provides, you might expect these systems to be fairly expensive. Fortunately, they are completely cost efficient. Installing a system to protect your equipment can be compared to a penny protecting a ten dollar bill. Many insurance companies recognize a reduction in claims paid out due to the presence of a fixed vehicle suppression system which usually help lower your premiums.

Fire Systems, Inc. also offers gas detection systems which can be combined with fire suppression systems. With the advent of alternate fuel incentives, more and more companies are replacing their fleets and equipment with natural gas engines. Our gas detection system provides 24-hour protection from dangerous gas leaks that may occur from loose fittings, broken lines or accidents. An electrical control panel uses detection sensors to alert the operator by visual and audible alarms when the air becomes contaminated.

FIRE DOORS
Fire doors should be inspected and maintained just like any other fire equipment. When a fire occurs, it is critical that the heat is detected which then releases the doors shutting the fire off from other parts of the building. The National Fire Protection Association requires the use of fire doors and sets the guidelines for their inspection and maintenance. Fire Systems, Incorporated technicians will make certain your doors are in compliance with NFPA 80 and NFPA 90A. The average failure rate for doors which are not periodically maintained is greater than 45%.
